What is this look? Besides something I made up for laughs, it’s the tension in the balance of old and new. I love traditional things but am often asking myself if something is too granny. Describing one’s style is harder than it would seem and words like eclectic don’t really paint much of a picture. While riffing with a fellow designer we declared his style “busted luxury” and mine as “street cred granny”. When he snorted with laughter I knew I had a winner.
This pairing of a very ornamental carved demi-lune table with the animal illustrated lithograph featuring NWA lyrics pretty well incapacitates the concept.
Here you can see the traditional wallpaper in the kitchen along with the cotton chintz curtains.
The bold color with the metallic accents give it some edge and keep it out of the full on granny territory.
The fabric isn’t a floral but a flock of bouncing art deco deer. That also kinda look like my dog.
In the bedroom I paired full custom silk curtains with a bold wall color and industrial french wall lights. It’s collected but cohesive with the right amount of tension between the contrasting elements. The magic is in the mix and the most interesting rooms all have an element of surprise. Also, making up names is fun.
